A perfect morning in Nice: sunrise and tour of Nice old town

7am - What better way to start this amazing day in Nice than a breakfast of champions at the Best Western Hotel Lakmi Nice. From 7am, head to the first floor to tuck into the extensive buffet including sweet and savoury items: scrambled eggs, pastries, bacon, cereals etc.

7.50am (in winter) - Batteries recharged, go to the Promenade des Anglais, just minutes from your 3 star hotel to watch the fabulous sunrise. An unforgettable moment that will stay in your memories and photo albums. Ask about what time the sun is rising the night before so you don't miss the show. Whilst you're here, spend a few minutes exploring the Promenade des Anglais along the Baie des Anges on foot or by bike as you can hire "blue bikes" on-site.

10am - After your morning walk, settle onto a terrace at one of the many cafés on Cours Saleya, the must-visit site hosting the famous Nice flower market. Note that the flower market is replaced by the Vieux-Nice second-hand market on Mondays.

11am - It's elevenses so treat yourself to a Nice speciality such as Socca, a chickpea flour pancake that you can eat any time of day. Wander through the colourful narrow lanes in Vieux-Nice. Nice's old town is for pedestrians only. Wander around the shops: delis, art galleries, cheesemongers, bakeries, restaurants, boutiques and more.

Bang on midday listen out for the traditional cannon fire that has been shot every day since the 1860s from Château Hill and echoes throughout the city of Nice.

Seaside lunch at Nice port

12.30pm – Walk to the port to gaze at the unobstructed views of the Mediterranean Sea and stop to take a photo on the Esplanade de Rauba Capeù in front of the tourists' favourite monument, the giant #ILoveNice sign.
Carry on your way past the kaleidoscope of colourful boats at Nice port.

1pm - Unwind with lunch by the sea on the terrace in one of the restaurants in the port area. Feel free to ask for advice at reception at our 3* hotel before you leave.

Take your pick from a dream afternoon in Nice: beaches or museums?

2.30pm - Spend the afternoon relaxing on your towel and soaking up the Côte d’Azur sunshine. The Bains Militaires beach just past the port is quieter and more private than the ones on the Promenade des Anglais. Venture a little further and you'll stumble across a flock of little creeks.

If it's a bit chilly for the beach then visit one of the many museums in the city such as the Chagall Museum and Matisse Museum. Nice is both a city for tourists and culture vultures and is hot on the heels of Paris in terms of museum visitor numbers.

End a perfect day on the Côte d’Azur

5pm – Visit Château Hill's grounds overlooking the city and Baie des Anges in the late afternoon. Take the stairs or lift up to gaze at the waterfall, ruins and most importantly the 360° views of the sea and the whole of Nice.

6pm - On the way back to the Best Western Hôtel New York Nice, admire the 7 illuminated statues on Place Masséna. Jaume Plensa's statues light up and change colour a dozen metres from the ground at nightfall.

There's a multitude of boutiques along Avenue Jean Médecin on the way to the hotel if you want to get a few bits or buy some souvenirs.

7.30pm – When you get to your city centre 3* hotel, it's time to relax after your action-packed day.
